“My new year’s resolution is…” is the usual way we start a brand new year, but it is time to take action and improve yourself in 2022.

Let’s look at 10 different ways to improve your life for the new year.

  1. Keep Moving

The most common way to destress is to exercise, which boosts endorphins within your body. Exercise also improves mental health, reducing stress, anxiety and depression. Furthermore, it can improve your sleeping patterns which helps your daily routine.

  1. Eat Well

As they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and they are not wrong. Having a healthy balanced diet, can improve your stress management, concentration and sleep quality. I’m not saying you can’t have that donut, all in moderation.

  1. How are you feeling?

Life stresses may be a challenge for you, but you may not want to discuss them with certain people. Therefore, asking for help is not a weakness, so make sure you ask for assistance, such as an organisation that helps with mental health.

These include;

Life Line – 13 11 14

Beyond Blue – 1300 22 46 36

Kids Helpline – 1800 551 800

These organisations have fully trained counsellors to help people struggling with their mental health, so don’t be afraid to reach out if you need a helping hand.

  1. Reach Out To Others

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” – Brad Meltzer
Does it feel like we don’t have time to catch up with friends and family due to our busier lives? Try to organise certain times of the week to give people a call or text to check how their lives are travelling. That simple task can make a difference in their lives.

  1. Limit Your Screen Time

We live in a world of distractions, especially from our devices. A simple way of improving our mental health is to turn off notifications and organise certain times of the day to check them. Achieving this goal may allow for a restful night.

  1. Time to Organise

Being disorganised can be overwhelming, which can lead to feeling stressed. A simple step to start your organisation within your personal space is to get rid of things you don’t need. Taking the time to organise those areas can be beneficial, seeing an improvement in your mental health and relationship with others.

  1. Take A Break

Overwhelmed by life stresses may feel that we don’t have that time to take breaks. But we need to take breaks during our daily tasks for our well-being and productivity. Setting alarms throughout the day for your daily rest is a simple way to organise your time. Additionally, this could improve your stress levels and maintain your performance throughout the day.

  1. Find A Hobby

Finding a hobby is a distraction from everyday life, which encourages you to take a break and learn new talents that you never knew that you had. Furthermore, finding a hobby that others are interested in will allow you to socialise and build relationships with people in the community. Overall, hobbies can improve your mindset and declutter your mind.

  1. Quiet Your Mind

Our mind is overloaded with so much information these days, but one way to reset the mind is through meditation. Mediation is a practice that allows you to clear your mind of busy thoughts, which improves your physical and mental state. Furthermore, it can make you feel calmer during the day and deal with different stressful situations.

  1. Set Goals For 2022

Write down your goals for 2022, but make sure you aim high and be realistic. As you achieve those goals or small goals to reach those bigger goals, try to reward yourself with things that make you happy. A sense of accomplishment after achieving your goals will build self-confidence in yourself.
