As we head towards the end of the year, we have the time to take a break and spend more time with family and friends. Let’s list 8 major events that you can attend with them to have some of the best summer fun imaginable.
MOONLIGHT CINEMA
The annual event on the central lawns of the Botanical Gardens is back for another year. The Moonlight Cinema allows movie-goers to watch their favourite films with a packed picnic while laid back under the stars. We recommend that your book ahead as it can sell out quickly depending on which movie is showing.
SUMMER NIGHT MARKET
From late November up until mid-March, the Night Market at Queen Victoria Market is back for another summer. Call up your friends and meet them there for an evening of enjoying all the different food, drinks, music and entertainment on offer. Furthermore, there will be scheduled acts at the Market throughout the summer, you can lock in dates to attend. We won’t give away the details but all we will say is, ready to eat and dance the night away.
LIVE AT THE BOWL
An annual event at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, this event will celebrate music, dance and community. This season’s headline acts include Arctic Monkeys, Bon Iver, Boris Brejcha and Darren Hayes. Pack a picnic, grab your friends and dance to your heart’s content as the sun sets over Melbourne.
NEW YEAR EVE’S CELEBRATION
To bring in 2023, Melbourne CBD will have plenty of events going on during the New Year Eve’s celebration. There will be different zones from Docklands, Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens and Kings Domain. Within these zones, there will be family entertainment, food trucks and installations. At midnight, you will be able to see the New Year fireworks across Melbourne’s CBD skyline and surrounding areas.

CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY
Christmas in Melbourne will be bigger than ever, with heaps of events to help get you in the holiday spirit. From Christmas Square, Mazes and Playgrounds, there will be something Christmas related for everyone in and around Melbourne to take part in. Our Christmas favourite is the annual Myer Christmas Windows, which this year features a theme from our Disney Favourites. Christmas is the time to spend with your family and friends, so hopefully you will be able to find something around Melbourne to do together.
THE LUME – Monet and Friends
If you attended The Lume featuring Van Gogh’s incredible works, now it’s time to come back to see Monet and Friends. This exhibition is a multi-sensory experience, using all your senses to bring the works of art to life. There are over 3000 square metres of the art gallery to explore and this will make for an experience you will never forget.
TIME – RONE
Well-known Melbourne artist, Rone, has outdone himself with an amazing exhibition that is a love letter to Melbourne. Set on the 3rd floor of the Flinders Street Station, there are 12 installations that are haunted by large murals, which take you back to the fictional post-WWII period and give you a taste of what it felt like to live during that time in Melbourne. This is another of Melbourne’s memorable experiences that you really must take in this summer.
Now you have an idea of what’s going on in Melbourne, grab your diary and pencil in dates to get along to all these events before everyone else beats you to it!
